When King Zhuang of Chu was hosting a banquet for his ministers, the wine flowed freely and the atmosphere was joyous. Suddenly, a gust of wind extinguished the lights. In the ensuing darkness, someone took the liberty to touch the queen's sleeve. The queen quickly tore off part of the intruder's hat string and informed the king.

However, instead of punishing the offender, King Zhuang asked everyone present to remove their hat strings as well. He then resumed the festivities with no further mention of the incident.

Later, during a critical battle, one general fought valiantly to save the king. It turned out that this general was the very person who had been caught in the earlier indiscretion. Grateful for the king's forgiveness, he had repaid the favor on the battlefield.
